Volunteers are an association of people motivated by an ethic of service. At the YMCA they teach skills and impart the values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Volunteers give back to the community as mentors, coaches, skilled instructors and helpers.

The Family YMCA could not exist without the assistance and good will of our volunteers. The year 2010 saw 325 volunteers donate 9,126 hours of time for community building.  The value of this contributed time is $168,831.

Our volunteers are in good company… The YMCA’s founder was a volunteer. In 1844, George Williams saw a need for a place where people could gather together in a positive environment. That same need started The Family YMCA in 1955 in Los Alamos. Today, volunteers continue to play a substantial role in the YMCA. Volunteers have a strength, talent, idea or time and share it. Volunteers give. Volunteers do good.

We have volunteer opportunities for fund raisers, on our board, in child care, member services, coaching, program instruction, facility maintenance, and at the climbing wall. Our special events also need volunteers.
