"The Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa) were conquered and united into one kingdom. To insure his rule, the king confiscated and banned possession of weapons by people other than his troops. A second ban on weapons was instituted by Japanese conquerors approximately 200 years later. These two incidents are generally credited as the cause for the intense development of the empty-handed fighting techniques..." - Special Forces (USA) manual ST 31-204

Shoshin Ryu Jujitsu

Shoshin Ryu (Jujitsu) is a classical, non-competitive, well-balanced martial art. Shoshin Ryu places emphasis on developing powerful, practical self-defense skills by synergistically combining nage (throwing) techniques of Judo, atemi (striking) techniques of Karate and Tai Kwon Do, jujutsu (locking/grappling) techniques of Jujitsu and blending and redirecting of energy such as with Aikido. The underlying principle of this art is to produce maximum effect with minimum effort. Emphasis is on blending with an opponent’s energy and controlling it, hence the name Jujitsu or “gentle art.” Students will train their mind and body to move as one. Students will develop fluid, effective and powerful techniques through proper body dynamics, breathing and relaxation, as well as improve mental awareness and focus.
