Policies And InformationThe gym is open to climbers of all ages. All climbers must have a signed liability waiver. Those under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign for them. Children 12 and under must wear a helmet and be accompanied by an adult during open gym hours.

Climbing Wall Birthday Party (Ages 4 & up)Give your child a birthday party to remember at the Y’s indoor climbing gym. After climbing for 1.5 hours, there will be a half hour of parent-led time for cake, pizza or ice cream and opening presents. Parents provide the food. No previous climbing experience is necessary. Safe, experienced climbers are on staff for the parties.
The cost is $70 for rental of the Climbing Wall (includes one staff member). In addition to the Climbing Wall rental, there is a fee of $3 per child. Parties of 16 or more need an additional staff person for $25. Climbers must be at least 4 years old. A $25 deposit is required. More details are available at the Member Services Desk.
Little Geckos (Ages 3-5 w/parent)No experience necessary.
This fun class focuses on fundamentals of climbing techniques. Participants learn climbing commands and climbing wall rules, play bouldering games, and climb the wall at their own pace. Classes are offered monthly as four week sessions.
$20/ $15 for Y Member
Youth Climbing - Level 1 (Ages 5-10)Combined class caters to each participant’s experience level. No experience is necessary.
Depending on experience of the participant, the class covers bouldering, spotting for others, putting on a harness, climbing commands, and tying a figure eight and follow-through, and climbing to the top of the wall. Classes are offered monthly Sept - May

Youth Climbing - Level 3 (Ages 8-12)Pre-requisites: Completion of Youth summit and approval of the Youth Summit instructor.
This advanced youth class develops responsibility for one’s role as a climber. Participants practice the power of positive talk (a technique which only allows students and instructors to talk in positive terms; no words like can’t, won’t It’s too hard, and I’m tired etc). Students learn and use the 5 points of safety, and practice specific climbing techniques such as advanced balance and movement concepts, weight shifting, crossing through, sequencing, foot work and hand holds. Lessons include take-home strength training and technique assignments that each student can do in their day-to-day life to improve their climbing skills.

Teen Climbing Class (ages 12+)Tuesdays 4:00-5:30pm
Come climb with friends, hang out, get some coaching from our Teen Climbing Coach, and discover how awesome climbing is.
$10 per month/ $5 per month for Y Members (Cost includes Equipment Usage)
Belay Test (Ages 18 & up)Test is required for belaying at The Family YMCA Climbing Wall. Participants must be 18 years or older to take the test only (14 -17 must take the On Belay Class). Participants must demonstrate knowledge of proper harness use, knots, tying-in, commands, and proper technique according to The Family YMCA standards.
Tests may be given by any Climbing Wall staff during Open Climb Times.
On Belay Class (Ages 14 & up)Instruction, practice and testing to belay at the Y. Class is offered every other month. February, April, June, August, October, and December.
The class is 4:00-5:30pm on the first and second Saturdays and first Sunday of the month except on holidays (check at Member Services desk for holiday month schedule). The first night is an instructional class in which participants learn the necessary skills to pass the belay test. The second class is required and allows participants to practice before the test. The third class is the test.
