CLIMBING WALL BIRTHDAY PARTYGive your child a birthday party to remember at the YMCA's Climbing Gym. After climbing for 1 and 1/2 hours, there will be a half hour of parent-led time for cake, pizza or ice cream and opening presents. Parents provide the food. No previous climbing experience is necessary. Safe, experienced climbers conduct the parties for 6 to 12 children.Cost is $15 per child and climbers must be at least 6 years old. A $25 deposit is required. More details are available at the Member Services Desk. Don't forget your camera! CLIMBING CLASSESClimbing classes for youth are designed to provide participants with a thorough climbing experience. Using a checklist, the instructor evaluates each climber throughout the session to determine if she/he is ready for the next program level.All equipment is provided for adult classes, all equipment except shoes is provided for youth classes. WALL CRAWLERS (AGES 4 & UP)This class is designed for children with disabilities. Add a new dimension to your child's development--a vertical one! Through climbing, participants will improve physical fitness and motor skills and gain self-confidence and a more positive self image. Activities include bouldering games to increase coordination and climbing with ropes to gain confidence and courage. Class is scheduled according to interest. Members: $20, Program Members: $28KINDER KLIMB (AGES 4-6)No experience necessary. Fun class focuses on the fundamentals of climbing techniques while playing bouldering games.Mondays 4:00-5:00pm Members: $23, Program Members: $32 SUMMIT ONE and TWO (AGES 7-12)Combined class caters to each participant's experience level. No experience necessary for Summit One, a class for beginning climbers that covers climbing half-way up the wall, bouldering, spotting for others, putting on a harness, climbing commands, and tying a figure eight and follow-through with assistance. Summit Two class covers tying a figure eight and follow-through independently, bouldering a 15-foot section of wall, and climbing to the top of the wall.Tuesdays 4:00-5:15 pm. Members: $31, Program Members: $43 SUMMIT THREE and FOUR (AGES 8-12)Prerequisite: passing Summit Two checklist. Combined class caters to each participant's experience level. Summit Three covers climbing and identifying specific routes, various climbing techniques such as stemming and smearing, the Yosemite Decimal System , and red-pointing and on-sighting a climb. Summit Four class covers red-pointing a 5.8, on-sighting a 5.7, bouldering four consecutive laps, climbing an overhang without sitting, and identifying and using different holds.Thursdays 4:00-5:15pm Members: $31, Program Members: $43 |
TRY-IT! TUESDAYS (ALL AGES)Every think about checking out the YMCA's Climbing Wall? Don't think about it, come and try it! Every Tuesday evening The Family YMCA Climbing Wall will have two monitors on duty to help novice climbers. All climbers will follow the Climbing Wall's rules, regulations and climbing etiquette, including taking turns when all ropes are being used. Register at the front desk and show up any time between 5:30 and 10 pm. If you like what you experience, you can sign up for an On Belay Class.Members: Free, Program Members: $10. No charge for equipment rental on Tuesdays! ON BELAY CLASS & CERTIFICATION (AGES 14 & UP)Instruction, practice and testing for belay certification. The class is offered on the first and second Mondays of each month except on holidays (see schedule). The first night is an instructional class in which participants learn the necessary skills to pass the belay test. The second class allows participants to practice and then test. Participants must bring a partner (child or adult) to each class. Participants may also partner together. It is not required to register for the second class--participants may make an appointment with the Climbing Wall Supervisor to take the belay certification test (the fee is the same). Fees include equipment rental.Instructional Class Fees: Members: $18, Program Members: $25 Practice and Certification Class: $12 RENTALSIf you do not own your own gear, the YMCA has equipment available for rent: shoes, harness, belay device and carabineer, $3 per item, or $7 for total package, however there is no charge for equipment rental on Tuesdays.
