  1. Firecracker 5K Fun Run
    Registration is now open for The Family YMCA's annual July 4th Firecracker 5K Fun Run. Race begins at 8:00am Thursday July 4th at The Family YMCA, 1450 Iris St. in Los Alamos. Cost is $25, $10 for Youth ages 13 and under, and $15 for Y Members. Runners/Walkers will receive a t-shirt at check-in 7:15-7:45am on July 4th and are eligible for one of the many door prizes. Top runners in each division will also receive a prize. Strollers, costumes, and dogs welcome to join the fun. For more information on our Firecracker 5K click here.

  1. Climbing Wall News
    The Climbing Wall at the Y has some new classes, programs, and prices to get you introduced, get you in, and get you climbing for less. Climbing is a whole body workout that results in an exhilarating accomplishment.
    Adult Climb Time for any level of climber - beginner to advanced ages 18+. Friday mornings, 9:00-11:00am, during YMCA Child Watch. $20 per month (plus Child Watch fee if needed) / $10 for Y members with Child Watch free as always. Bring your own gear, or use ours.
    Little Geckos- ages 3-5 with parent. $30 per month / $20 for Y members. Tues & Thurs morning, 10:00-11:00am, during child watch.
    Friday Night Happy Hour- Runs from 5:00-9:00pm every Friday $5/ Free for Y Members. Only $5 for climbing equipment rental or bring your own.
    Climbing Wall Birthday Parties. Saturday or Sunday, 4:00-6:00pm. $70 plus $3 per climber - includes private use of climbing wall area, equipment use, and instructor. Great for ages 5 and up.
    Open Climb Hours: Lunch Hour Mon-Fri (11:45-1:15pm); Early AM Tues & Thurs (5:45-7:15am); Evenings Mon-Thurs (5:30-10:00pm) Friday (3:30-9:00pm); and Sat & Sun (12:00-4:00pm).

  1. Provide AID, Prevent Suicide
    Suicide is an often misunderstood cause of preventable and premature death. High School age teens interested in increasing their suicide awareness and learning about how encourage others to seek help are invited to join in a talk and open discussion at the Teen Center on May 1st. The one-hour workshop will focus on ways to provide A.I.D. (Ask, Intervene, Do) for someone who may be suicidal as well as resource referral. No registration required.   1. SAN Volunteers Needed!
    Volunteers are needed to help with events for the community-sponsored, all-night senior graduation celebration known as SAN (Senior Appreciation Night) for shifts that begin at 6 pm on June 1, 2013. SAN was created as a fun, safe alternative to dangerous celebrations for graduates. The event is in its 29th year and typically serves 350 students. Volunteers are needed to work a 2-to 3-hour position at times detailed below, and may sign up for one or more shifts. Volunteers may email Diana Martinez at dmartinez@laymca.org, or call at 662-3100.

  1. MyCD (Manage Your Chronic Disease) Workshop
    Are you an adult with an on-going health condition? Consider taking a MyCD workshop to help you take charge of your life.   1. Strong Kids Campaign
    2013 Annual Campaign is in full swing with over 50 campaign volunteers helping us meet our $130,000 goal so that no one is turned away from the Y due to inability to pay. In 2012, our financial aid program helped 249 people access Y programs including after school and summer camp. Funds raised also helped support youth programs in Los Alamos and Española, as well as free pre-diabetes and chronic disease management educational and support classes.   1. Half Marathon & Festive 5K Results
    The Family YMCA’s Half Marathon & Festive 5K a fundraiser in support of youth programs, was held on Saturday, December 8th.   1. Los Alamos Youth Food Project
    Hoop-House Raising Celebrated Community Garden Funded by State Farm Youth Advisory Board.  The State Farm Youth Advisory Board awarded a $96,250 grant to the Los Alamos Juvenile Justice Advisory Board (JJAB) in support of an educational and outreach community garden. The JJAB has contracted The Family YMCA to deliver the grant’s education and food-assistance objectives throughout the next year. This is the second award by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board to the JJAB for their Los Alamos Youth Food Project (LAYFP).
